Dear Miss Melissa:
Thank you for all that you do for the children in Wee Little Arts at First (Scots). Our Margaret’s works grace the walls of my office. Clients who come in marvel at the level of talent and expertise, especially the “Miro.”
- Parent: G. Hamlin O’Kelley, III, Mt. Pleasant, SC
Margaret has loved Wee Little Arts. I am always amazed when she starts spouting out information about the artist. She loves to come home and “doodle” in her own sketch book. She attempts to draw so many new things. I have been VERY pleased with WLA. I hope it will be available again.

We are so lucky to have found Ms. Barbie and Wee Little Arts for our daughter, Leah.
We have seen Leah blossom as an artist over the past year. Not only has Leah learned about famous artists and their work, she has learned actual art techniques. She has even taught me how to apply water colors to a paint brush correctly!
Ms. Barbie is amazing with the children as she guides them to create their masterpieces. She then displays the finished projects through the school which instills confidence and self-esteem. Wee Little Arts is the absolute best art education class offered. We are looking forward to our son learning from Ms. Barbie next year.

It is a wonderful program. Ed has learned SO much! We are so pleased that Second Presbyterian has this to offer our children! Melissa is a wonderful and talented teacher.

We are thrilled that WLA is growing like it is! You have really made such an important impact on the Charleston arts community for kids and will continue to do so elsewhere. I feel that we are so privileged to have met you early on and we are happy that Ben and Morgan have had time with you. Ben LOVES it and Morgan, as you know, has her sights set on the School of the Arts. Thank you so much!

I’m amazed at what Cole has learned. We have his artwork framed all over our house. I think it’s neat that the kids learn about famous artists and styles.

Thanks for providing this program. Allie looks forward to it every Tuesday.
- Parent: Chris Bucknam, Charleston, SC
Please know whenever we see people creating art, and teachers helping with their learning, you are our GOLD standard and we miss you. All the best, and thanks in advance!
- Parent: Nancy Diehl who moved her family to Japan after taking Wee Little Arts in Charleston, SC
Who would’ve thought that a 3.5 year old could understand the concept of drawing a landscape? Jackson does and now draws landscapes daily in his art book. We love the class!!!
- Parents: John and Kathy Nash, Roper Learning Center, Charleston, SC
I have had 2 of my kids (the older 2) take Wee Little Arts after school and we all have enjoyed it tremendously. Ms. Barbie has been very sweet to the children and she does a great job teaching them. My kids really enjoyed learning about art, working on and showing off their artwork. They often came home with impressive pieces that I want to frame. The time setup is great since it’s right after lunch bunch. My younger daughter who will begin preschool in the fall has already been asking for taking the art class and I look forward to seeing her artistic talents develop with Ms. Barbie’s wonderful help and guidance.

Aurelyn has always liked expressing herself through drawing. I believe your class has helped a great deal in developing her skill in art. She loves your class. Thank you.

Laurie and I would like to thank you again for your work with Gavin. The program thoroughly impressed both of us, but even more impressive than that was the obvious positive interaction you have with the children. That shows through in all of the pictures on the wall in the cafeteria each week. Thanks again!
- Parent: Marshall Milligan , The O’Quinn School, Charleston, SC
I want to thank you for working with Flora in the magical way that you do. Her confidence is so improved, and her drawing reflects that. She was actually scheduled to see an occupational therapist because we were concerned that her fine motor skills were lagging, but I cancelled the appointment because it doesn’t seem necessary anymore.

Melissa,
This is just a quick note to let you know how much Ella is enjoying Wee Little Arts at O’Quinn. She looks forward to it all week and always has interesting things to share when she gets home. Her bedroom walls are covered with her artwork and she is so proud to show it off to buddies and family. Thank you for teaching her to love art and giving her the confidence that she can create a masterpiece just like the artists that you study.
Please keep up the good work. Your enthusiasm and your commitment to children are second to none!

Melissa, I want to thank you for all you have done for Mary Catherine over the past two years. She absolutely loves your class. I was a bit floored when she came home the day before we were flying to New York and informed me that we had to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art because she had “pieces of art” she needed to see. You made it all happen by taking the time to plan my museum trip!
She was so excited when we arrived. The first piece we saw wasn’t even on the list you provided, it just caught her eye as we were going through one gallery. She reminded me that she had studied this artist last year (and I actually have her rendering hanging in my office). She was even able to tell me how Jackson Pollock “layered” his paint. As I am a complete novice in an art gallery, I was so proud that she was describing things to me. The highlight of our visit to MOMA was when I asked a concierge for directions to a gallery and I explained that we had flown up from South Carolina and my daughter was in a fine art class and we were looking for specific pieces that she studied. The concierge insisted she was not going to let Mary Catherine miss the Van Gogh exhibit. I told her we weren’t able to see the exhibit as it was on a timed tickets, which conflicted with our plans. She took us straight to the exhibit as her special guest so Mary Catherine could see the “Starry Night”.
What a thrill for both of us. Again, you are doing amazing work with your program and I wish you continued success.
