The newest Wee Little Art franchise owner is Anca Pop, currently practicing medicine in Memphis, TN. Her sister- Ioana Pop- will be the first Nashville area Wee Little Arts pre-school art teacher. Anca and Ioana were born and raised in Romania and are naturalized United States citizens. They have always loved working with, and relating to people and have been avid art lovers and supporters.
“As the eldest of three girls, I’ve always loved being around children,” Anca says. “I believe that children’s brains can absorb a lot early on, and nowadays they are not stimulated enough interactively. There is a codependency of babysitting children trough technology – TV set, computer, etc., which may not be that benign for their brain development and social skills formation.”
“I see a great need for early childhood programs within the United States. Children need exposure to, and involvement in visual and performing arts starting at a very early age. Such venues are few and far between, and art funding is often inadequate in the United States.”
Ioana earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Michigan State University, with photography/graphic design as concentration and French as external specialty, completed a graduate program in International Relations and Conflict Resolution at American Military University, and is currently finishing up a Masters of Education degree at Tennessee State University.
Ioana’s love of learning and adventure took her to over 30 countries, either for work – as a travel guide in Turkey, a teacher in China, or serving in the U.S. Army for four years in Germany, Iraq and Kuwait – or for leisure. Through interactions with people of different nationalities and from different walks of life, she learned that art is truly a universal language that can teach us about life, the world, and its history by eliminating individual differences and by bringing any subject to life through active participation in creative work.
Ioana enjoys living in Franklin, TN, and is thrilled to become a member of the Wee Little Arts family. She is making great progress in creating relationships with the community establishing Wee Little Arts Nashville as a member of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the National Art Education Association. Ioana is excited offer such an dynamic art program to her community.
